Birthday celebrations are, without a doubt, among the many things that were previously “normal” and that were seen and are “crossed” and conditioned by the coronavirus pandemic. But The Real Decadent managed to have your perfect party.
“I believe that good combinations have already been invented and that nothing can beat coffee with milk (its inventor must have been an exceptional being) which is delicious and is the combination par excellence”.
Just as no one can doubt the exceptionality of this phrase by Jorge Luis Borges, the previous offer of the concert offered by Los Auténticos Decadentes on Saturday at the Obras Stadium was also as perfect as the writer’s description: the quintessential Argentine party band celebrated his thirty-fifth birthday.

And, above, the celebration was double, since this was their first recital (for them and for many attendees) after the Coronavirus will close all kinds of events in closed places from March 2020 until this current quasi-normality.
The taste of reunion
The exceptional nature of the night was reflected at the beginning of How can I forget, a historic number two on the band’s setlist after opening with that introductory hymn called Are. I had started the subject when Cucho Parisi stopped the group and addressed the excited public by the situation of the return to the tables.
Few times was there such a sincere and spontaneous gesture in a concert by a frontman as when Cucho said “I can’t sing this automatically.” It was the first sketch of a night that had him as master and lord of the scene, in a kind of permanent stand up in each of the moments in which he was master of ceremonies.

“I hope you had fun and if not, you can go to the psychologist”, was the best of his phrases of the night.
That role of leader rotates within the combo as if it were a volleyball team, and that Jorge Serrano, Diego Demarco, Martín “La Moska” Lorenzo, Gastón “El Francés” Bernardou and Eduardo “Animal also assume in different parts of the show. ”Tripod.
Many that we all know
Since the rescue of the great Skabio (“And I can’t stop drinking, / oh oh oh, I like to drink. / And I can’t stop toasting, even if I’m alone, / it’s my favorite drug”), included in The Argentine miracle (1989) to And the band goes on (tune that titles his 2014 album), all the songs that had to be played were sounded, so that Obras was transformed at times into a giant karaoke.

In this way, what was generated was a situation of both apotheosis and emotional discharge and even physical repression, while the chairs in the field sector prevented the pogo and the chinstraps the kisses. The Deca version of The old vinegars by Sumo (which ended with Cucho singing a cappella The stupid blonde) paints to establish itself as its own.
Part of a repertoire in which it works the same way Beatle of Attaque 77, which had a more two tone than ever, and People who don’t. AND I will live forever it acted like a certain heart attack, as Queen used to say.
The verse “It is important to take care of your health and your loved ones. Because the countdown started, it can’t be stopped … “ today has the impact of past pain and the hope that the disease would be, once and for all, in retreat. And of course, once again confirms the genius of Serrano in the pantheon of the great singer-songwriters Argentines of all times.

A team that plays by heart
Rarely do they talk about a fundamental issue to sustain Decadent histrionics, such as the group’s sound foundations. The rhythmic base of Pablo Arnesto (bass) and Mariano Franceschelli (drums) has millimeter precision and he performs like those tough football defenses, which midfielders and forwards rely on blindly.
And the same happens with the guitar tandem (Demarco and Nito Montecchia), wind (led by Pablo Rodríguez’s saxophone) and percussion (El Francés, La Moska and El Animal). These subgroups complement and nurture each other, sometimes in a chaotic way, always in pursuit of the ultimate benefit being for everyone, without assuming any as the exclusive protagonist.
The cooperative band concept It is applied by the Decadentes in each of its estates, including the extra musical ones, and it is one of the secrets of its permanence and validity throughout these three and a half decades.

Happiness at your fingertips
The end of the concert found a Cucho happier and more carefree than ever, a Serrano who moved with the acoustic start of Crazy (your way of being) in encores, to French disguised as a fireman throwing water at the public with a hose and to the winds that were engaging different decadent leitmotifs.
They did it in the manner of the brass bands of New Orleans, to seal a farewell with the whole group fused in a genuine hug. Enjoy Yourself, the song popularized by The Specials that accompanied people when they left Obras, worked as a perfect summary of the night and this time: “Years go by, as fast as a wink. / Have fun, have fun, it’s later than you think”.

The Real Decadent they hit the key of popular Creole sentiment again, as they have been doing for thirty-five years. In this case in a way that no one would have wanted. Happy Birthday.
