The General Directorate of Health of Portugal (DGS) released on Thursday a new guideline that allows the occupation of the entire capacity of sports facilities in the country from tomorrow.

According to the organization, all seats in the stands of stadiums and gymnasiums may be occupied. People will be able to attend these places as long as they present a certificate of vaccination against Covid-19 and maintain the use of a mask.

The measure is part of the third relaxation plan that was announced by the government last week, with entry into force tomorrow, given the reduction of pandemic indicators in Portuguese territory.

Thus, as of this Friday, bars and nightclubs will be able to reopen their doors, and, in addition, the requirement for a Covid-19 certificate to enter restaurants and stay in hotels is eliminated.

The gastronomic and commercial sectors will no longer have restrictions on their opening hours and will be able to function with full occupancy. There will also be no limitation on gifts at wedding ceremonies and baptisms.

The digital vaccination certificate will be required on air or sea travel, on visits to nursing homes and hospitals, where the presence of family members as companions of hospitalized patients will become possible.

The mask, whose use is already optional on the streets and in school playgrounds, will have to be used only in public transport, concert halls, large shopping centers, among other places with large circulation of people.

Since the beginning of the pandemic, Portugal has registered more than 1 million cases of infection by the new coronavirus and 17,968 thousand deaths from Covid-19.

Today, according to the most recent balance of the country’s authorities, 386 people are hospitalized with the disease, with 68 remaining in ICUs. In addition, nearly 85% of the population has completed the Covid-19 vaccination cycle.
