(Reuters) – Atletico Madrid won again in the Spanish Championship this Sunday with a 3-0 home victory over Betis, which made the team from the capital overtake their opponents and take fourth place in the table.
After two consecutive draws in the league, Atlético played one of the best games of the season against Manuel Pellegrini’s team, who hoped to remain in the fight for the lead in the table after three consecutive victories.
Yannick Carrasco opened the scoring with a phenomenal shot halfway through the first half, before Atlético increased their advantage on the 18th of the second stage, when Betis defender German Pezzella headed into their own nets after a corner.
Coming off the bench, João Félix closed the score 39 minutes into the second stage, ending the counterattack with a right shot from the left, with no chance for the goalkeeper.
Atlético climbed to fourth place in the table with 22 points, just two behind leaders Real Madrid, Sevilla and Real Sociedad. Betis dropped one position and is now fifth with 21 points.
