The Joint Committee for Traffic Safety in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi, which is chaired by the Department of Municipalities and Transport and whose membership includes the General Command of Abu Dhabi Police, the Department of Health and the Integrated Transport Center, announced the launch of a project to develop a zero-vision strategy that aims to achieve the highest levels of traffic safety in the emirate and reduce the number of deaths Road accidents, down to zero deaths.
The Department of Municipalities and Transport confirmed that the launch of this project to develop the zero-vision strategy stems from its keenness and the keenness of the relevant strategic partners to provide a safe and sustainable transportation system, embodying the vision and directives of the wise leadership towards meeting the needs of the individual and society and contributing to raising the quality of life and making Abu Dhabi a safer society.
Despite the success of the Emirate of Abu Dhabi during the past years in achieving a tangible reduction in the rates of traffic accidents, injuries and deaths resulting from them, the Department of Municipalities and Transport aims, through the zero-sum strategy, and in cooperation with partners, to achieve better results in its endeavor to achieve safe and easy transportation for all, and to establish a system Safe and sustainable transport that enhances the safety and security of road users.
The zero-vision strategy focuses on developing a road map, with the aim of reducing serious injuries and deaths, in order to achieve the high goal of “zero”. The idea of ​​the zero-vision strategy revolves around building a safe and tolerant transportation system, in which committing human error does not lead to loss of life, and this system is taken into consideration. The scope of the project includes developing an action plan covering all strategic axes, from establishing safe roads, implementing safe speeds, developing safety specifications for vehicles, leading to safe vehicles, enhancing road users’ responsibility towards others and their behaviors to be safe users, in addition to developing a response system for traffic accidents.
This is done through the use of a number of necessary tools, and the launch of a number of initiatives and projects that are summarized in many disciplines, including education and driver training programs, in addition to vehicles and drivers licensing mechanisms, laws and rules, in addition to traffic control, specifications, creativity and innovation, and coordination, And scientific research, especially by relying on data and analyzing it.
With the aim of enhancing the awareness of community members, including drivers and pedestrians, of traffic safety requirements, and in order to achieve the desired goals, the Joint Committee for Traffic Safety will launch during the coming period awareness campaigns that encourage community members to respond constructively to the messages and objectives of the zero-vision strategy development project.
