Sergio Díaz-Granados to head Latin international bank for 5 years

Colombian Sergio Díaz-Granados will be the new president of the CAF, the Development Bank of Latin America. He will take office on September 1st and will stay for 5 years. here’s the full release (615 KB).

The name was supported by Brazil. In note, O Ministry of Economy said that “Díaz-Granados has long experience in economic development areas, as well as the credentials necessary for the good conduct of CAF in the coming years”. The ministry also stated that the Colombian is aligned with Brazil’s interests in the development bank.

According to CAF, the new president will lead an institution with US$ 14 billion in annual resources. Since 1970, it has financed more than US$200 billion in projects to promote sustainable growth and regional integration.

He was elected by CAF’s Board of Directors, which is made up of the ministers of economy and finance, presidents of central banks and other economic authorities of the countries. The meeting was held at the National Palace of Mexico.

Sergio Díaz-Granados is a Colombian lawyer who serves as executive director for Colombia in IDB (Inter-American Development Bank). He was Colombia’s Minister of Commerce, Industry and Tourism, Vice Minister of Business Development and Chairman of the Boards of Directors of Bancóldex and ProColombia. The Colombian was a congressman and chairman of the Economic Affairs Committee of the House of Representatives.
