Anatomy of Julian Assange’s Extradition Attempt

First modification: 02/08/2021 – 21:03

On January 4, 2021, the British Justice rejected the extradition of Julian Assange to the United States, where the founder of the Wikileaks website faces 175 years in prison for having published hundreds of thousands of confidential documents of diplomacy and the secret service Americans.

Although the British judge Vanessa Baraitser rejected the extradition of the WikiLeaks founder, arguing that it would be fatal for his already deteriorating mental health, she rejected the arguments of the defense, which maintains that the leaks of the Australian journalist are framed in the freedom of the press and expression.

Following the decision, celebrated by the thousands of Assange supporters, the United States announced that it will appeal to pursue its objective: to bring the reporter to the country and try him under its laws, after he exposed dozens of US military irregularities in Iraq and Afghanistan.
