Lukashenka threatened to land any plane if Belarus is threatened

President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko said in an interview with CNN that the authorities of the republic will land any plane if the security of the state is threatened. Snippet of conversation showed TV channel “Belarus-1”.

At the same time, the head of state guaranteed any of the countries full flight safety in the territory “as it always was.” Thus, he allayed the fears of interviewer Matthew Chance.

“But if I and the law enforcement agencies see a threat to the Belarusian state, we will land any plane here – be it the UK or the USA,” Lukashenka stressed.

On May 23, a Ryanair plane en route from Athens to Vilnius made an emergency landing in Minsk due to a message from Belarusian dispatchers about an explosive device on board. After the ship landed, local security officials detained two passengers – the former editor-in-chief of the opposition Telegram channel NEXTA Roman Protasevich and his girlfriend, a Russian woman, Sofia Sapega. Information about mining was not confirmed.

After that, at the end of June, the European Union introduced the fourth package of economic sanctions against Belarus. 166 individuals and 15 legal entities fell under them. The UK, USA and Canada joined the restrictions. On August 9, they approved a number of other restrictions in the relations of the republic’s potash industry.
